In a discussion led by Shravan Ramaswamy, the five students shared their responses to questions about belonging at HKUST. The students outlined what has helped or hindered their sense of belonging (understood as feelings of value and respect in relation to the university), during their time here and how, since belonging is often thought of as plural (people have multiple belongings), their other belongings interact and intersect with their belonging in the university.

The discussion was then opened up to other participants who shared their responses to the same questions.

Implications for fostering a sense of belonging in all students at earlier stages of their career in the University were discussed. Barriers and how these might be broken down were suggested.
