Community

“Communities of practice are groups of people who share a concern, a set of problems, or a passion about a topic, and who deepen their knowledge and expertise in this area by interacting on an ongoing basis” (Wenger, McDermott & Snyder, 2002).

Intercultural Learning

Intercultural learning promotes development of intercultural competence.

Intercultural competence has been broadly defined as “adequate knowledge about particular cultures, as well as general knowledge about . . . issues arising when members of different cultures interact, holding receptive attitudes that encourage establishing and maintaining contact with diverse others, as well as having the skills required (in) . . . interacting with others from different cultures” (UNESCO, 2013).

Experiences

Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory proposes that learning can occur in any setting and continues throughout our lives. Learning starts with concrete experiences (Kolb, 1984).
